Mawimania continues

Seems like everyone is profitting from Mawi's triumph in Akademi Fantasia 3. In the latest development, a couple have named the Raya cookies they are selling - Gelora Mawi. Wonder if they have obtained the permission from Mawi to use his image.

Ka Ting's mum passed away.

My condolence to Ong Ka Ting and Ong Ka Chuan who lost their mum yesterday.

The Ong family has requested wellwishers not to send wreaths or condolence advertisements.

Will probably pay a visit to Ka Ting's residence today or tomorrow.

It's a week of loss for the presidents of the two leading parties in Barisan Nasional.

Failure

Try this...

  1. Go to google.com
  2. Type in "failure", without the quotes
  3. Instead of hitting "Search", hit "I'm feeling Lucky"
  4. See what comes up!

Wei Cheong is back

Lately I have been on site in Kurnia Insurans for inspection. Today, out of the blue I saw Wei Cheong while on the way up to Kurnia building. I managed to track him down at 22nd floor. He has been employed as the General Manager of Actuarial Department to start up actuarial operations in Kurnia Insurans. Today is only his 2nd day. He has just got back from UK last week, after working with Watson Wyatt and Prudential for a number of years upon qualifying as Fellow of Institute of Actuaries.

Wei Cheong is a senior of mine at City University. He was pursuing his MSc. in Actuarial Management when I was in the first year of my degree. We played badminton together occassionally with other Malaysians and also had a chance to travel to Brussels and Amsterdam together in May 2000. I still remember the great photos he had taken during the trip.

Anyway, happy that Malaysian has gained back another qualified actuary, especially one with a lot of experience and knowledge from UK.

Buka puasa...

Just like Christmas, Ramadan has been heavily commercialised in recent years.

In a month where Muslims are obliged to stay away from undesirable and excessive habits, show examplary behaviour and conduct, keep a positive mental and spiritual attitude and generally abstain from worldly desires, businessese seem to take this opportunity to beef up sales of products and services. It is quite common to see buka puasa buffet promotions where up to 100 types of food are available on the menu. The prices are exorbidant. Some hotels even charge up to RM90 per person for buffet. Rather than abstaining from excessive habits, many ended up eating excessively.

My new camera

I blogged about 3 cameras which I was deciding on few weeks ago. Johanna finally bought me a Canon Powershot S2 IS.

Ever since I have been trigger happy, shooting 4 weddings, Cherating Beach, etc.

Overall I'm very happy with the performance of the camera. Hopefully I will learn more new tricks as time goes by.

Below are some of the photos I've taken...

Python vs Gator

Saw this bizzare article from the BBC News website. A 13-foot python tried to swallow a 6-foot alligator in the Florida swamp and ended up exploding.

Busy...

I've been busy ever since last week.

Last week I attended a 4-day seminar in Sheraton Imperial, organised by Actuarial Society of Malaysia. The seminar title was 'Insurance Market Behaviour and Medical and Health Insurance'. Other than the interesting course, I also get to enjoy myself throughout the 4 days as the seminar was quite relaxing. Furthermore we get to go home at 4pm!

Johanna and I attended another wedding dinner on Friday night, together with her friend Vivian. The wedding dinner was hosted by Janet and Duane. Janet is Johanna's ex-housemate during colleage days. We also attended the church wedding the following day in a catholic church in Kajang.

Johanna and I set off for Parit Buntar on Sunday morning. This time we are attending Shaw Jiun and David's wedding in Batu Feringgi, Penang. So many weddings these few weeks! This is the 5th and final one in a series of weddings we were invited to. Financially I'm in ruin as not only I have to give 'ang pow', but also to travel to Malacca, Kuantan and Penang. Anyway, I do feel happy that many of our friends are getting married.

Johanna and I also managed to complete our wedding photo session on Monday. It was really tiring but worth every single moment as the results were really great. We will be heading up north again soon to pick the ones to be included in the album.

Anyway, just found a crazy article on BBC website... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4309012.stm
